Buckman Laboratories Inc. Presents $1000.00 Check to St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Left to Right: Mr. Charles Williams, Buckman Laboratories, Mrs. Cindy Hills, Buckman Laboratories, and George Moore president of the St. Ann Conference of St. Vincent de Paul.

On December 13th, 2010 Buckman Laboratories Inc. presented the St. Vincent de Paul Society a check for $1,000.00 as a part of their new program of support to local community charities.  Mrs. Cindy Hills, a member of the St. Ann Bartlett Conference of St. Vincent de Paul, and an employee of Buckman Laboratories, nominated the Society of St. Vincent de Paul as a worthy recipient to be considered for Buckman’s charitable outreach.  The nomination was accepted by the Buckman council overseeing the program and the check was presented to George Moore as representative of the Society.  Five hundred dollars will be used by the St. Ann Vincentians for those in need in this area, the remaining five hundred dollars was given to the Society’s District Council to fund the Food Mission at 123 North Cleveland in Memphis.

In accepting the check from Buckman Laboratories Inc., Mr. Moore expressed his heartfelt thanks to Buckman representatives, Mr. Charles Williams and Mrs. Cindy Hills.  With a nationally depressed economy calls for help have put a strain on St. Vincent de Paul finances, and this check from Buckman is greatly appreciated.

Thanks to the SVDP St. Ann Bartlett Conference for accepting this generous donation.

The Society

The primary focus of The Society since 1865 has been the assistance of individuals that call for help. That help may include assistance with utility bills, food baskets, rent or mortgage assistance.  It could also include help paying medical bills and whatever else the person may need to get back on their feet.

In Brief

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul first arrived in Memphis in 1865. The first conference (or group of volunteers) gathered at St. Peter and Paul parish in downtown Memphis. Since then the Society has grown to ten conferences, with hundreds of Vincentians, as the members are called. That number does not include the scores of volunteers that work at the food mission.
